Devlog 10

Art Update

A lot of development time this week went into making and placing new assets into our game!

Interior and Appliances

Animations were completed! The next step is to retexture and input into unity.

Exterior

Currently texturing exterior assets.

Character Design

All character animations are complete! We've finished up with the NPCs, Shannon and Caldero, giving them each custom idle, walking, carrying, interaction and "fuming" animations.

UI

Lots of development with the UI including the intro, main, controller confirmation and ending screens! Added a custom font named Sugar Addiction (thank you Misti's Fonts! https://www.1001freefonts.com/sugar-addiction.font).

Gameplay Update

Menu/Game over

We updated the game over screen to count up to the final score of the player. This adds some juice to the scene as well as allowing music to add some fun SFX.

Game Stability

Since this is one of our last weeks, a big focus was put on eliminating any bugs found during the beta and improving game stability.

Dialogue

We added dialogue to customers so that they have more personality when they arrive/leave. This should help make players more aware of customers as well as add some more personability to the game.

Extinguisher

We made it flash when there are > 0 fires to help players notice it.

Repair Indications

A predominant pain point for new players in playtesting was understanding when an appliance needed repair. For this reason, when an appliance breaks, we have now added a repair wrench icon to be displayed over the respective appliance. We have also added dialogue to incentivize players to drop what they have to repair as this was a mechanic that was also not communicated well in prior builds.

Audio Update

  • Wrote new menu music
  • Added sfx for the end screen money count
  • Updated footstep system to prevent the event from cutting instantly
  • Recorded VO for players and customers
  • Recorded hug SFX
  • Added repair microgame SFX
